Last Thursday, I left for Fes to meet with other students in the program. I took the train to Fes and the train ride was very uncomfortable. There was a male that I sat next to me, that made me feel very uncomfortable. To make sure, the guy would not follow me...Darby and Byron meet me at the train station. We left for the hostel in the old medina. The view of the city from our hostel was absolutely beautiful. That evening, we sat on the terrace talking and debating about when to leave to eat at Clock Cafe. Cafe Clock is well known for their camel burgers....which are delicious. The next day, we meet with the CIEE group and headed to Moulay Yacoub. Moulay Yacoub is a popular place for hamams because of the natural spring. While in Moulay Yacoub we ate couscous with a local Moroccan family and hiked up a very steep hill. The view at the top of the hill was absolutely beautiful! After leaving Moulay Yacoub we meet up with members of the Peace Core. It was great hearing their stories about why they joined the Peace Corps and the work they do in Morocco. Later with the whole group...we went back to Cafe Clock to eat another Camel Burger.
Saturday, Darby and I meet up with some friends we made in Italy. Our friends from Italy joined the other students and us on a tour of Fes's medina. Fes is famous for its leather products....so we saw the production area of leather goods. Also, we saw the production area for textiles. After the tour we continued to walk around and shop. I stumbled upon a store with tons of beautiful paintings. I ended up buying a painting and meeting the artist of the painting. Overall I loved Fes. Despite all of the cat calling I received in Fes. I have never been cat called so much. I was called "Janet Jackson", "Brazilian", "Mrs. Obama", "Shakira", among other names. I enjoyed visiting Fes much more than Marrakesh. In Morocco, the Moroccans like one city or the other....not both.
